Meet Otis!

Animal Ambassador

Otis, is a ten year old male rescued Barred Owl from the Carrie Murray Nature Center.  Barred Owls are found along rivers in low-lying woods.  These large owls can be recognized by the "barred" feather patterns running horizontally across its chest and down its belly (resembling a "BARS on a soldiers uniform).  Their distinctive calls sounds like "Who Cooks For You? or Who Cooks For You All?".  Barred Owls can be found throughout Maryland at any time of the seasons.  There are eighteen species of owls that can be found in North American,  eight of which can be found here in Maryland

About The Carrie Murray Nature Center:
Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks established the Carrie Murray Nature Center in the late 1980's after receiving a generous donation from baseball legend Eddie Murray.  The nature center is dedicated and named in memory of Me. Murray's mother-Carrie.  The center is located inside the 1216 acre historic Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, at 1901 Ridgetop Road, 21207.  The center is home to hawks, owls, deer, fox, raccoons, beaver, opossums, turtles and great array of song birds.  Visit: www.carriemurraynaturecenter.org for birthday parties, tours, environmental workshops, and more.
